Who I Am in Christ
A 7-day devotional
“But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”
A lot of voices try to tell you who you are: friends, social media, even your own thoughts. This week, listen to the voice that matters most. Each day takes about 10 minutes. Find a quiet spot, open your Bible or a Bible app, and ask God to speak to you.
The passage for the day.

Answer the questions. Write them down.
Use the prayer, or your own words.
Made on purpose
“I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”
Before anyone ever saw you, God saw you. He formed you on purpose, with care. Your face, your personality, the way your mind works: none of it was an accident.
Social media can make you feel like you’re never pretty enough, smart enough, or interesting enough. But your worth doesn’t come from likes or comments. It comes from the God who made you and calls His work wonderful. You don’t have to earn your value. You already have it, because you are His.
Think about it
- What do you usually tell yourself when you look in the mirror?
- What does God say about you in this psalm?
Pray
God, thank You for making me on purpose. When I compare myself to others, help me remember that I am Your work, and Your work is wonderful. Amen.
Loved at my worst
“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Most love feels earned. People like you when you’re nice, helpful, or fun to be around. God’s love is different. He didn’t wait for you to clean up your life. Jesus died for you while you were still a sinner.
That means there’s nothing you can do to make Him love you more, and nothing you’ve done that makes Him love you less. If you feel too messed up for God, this verse is for you. His love isn’t based on your best day. It’s based on Jesus.
Think about it
- Is there something you think makes you “too much” or “not enough” for God?
- How does Romans 5:8 answer that?
Pray
Jesus, thank You for loving me before I ever loved You. Help me believe Your love is real, even on my worst days. Amen.
A daughter of God
“But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”
When you trust in Jesus, God doesn’t only forgive you. He adopts you. You become His daughter. That’s not just a nice idea. It’s who you really are.
Maybe things at home are hard. Maybe you feel like you don’t belong anywhere. In Christ you have a Father who is always there, who never gets tired of you, and who will never walk out. You also get a family: the church, full of brothers and sisters. You belong.
Think about it
- What do you think a perfect father is like?
- How is God that kind of Father to you?
Pray
Father, thank You for making me Your daughter. When I feel alone, remind me that I belong to You and to Your family. Amen.
Not my past
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
Maybe there’s something you regret: something you said, did, or posted. Maybe people still bring it up. The enemy loves to remind you of your past, but God says something better. In Christ, you are a new creation.
That doesn’t mean you’ll never struggle again. It means your mistakes don’t get the last word. Jesus took your sin on the cross and gives you His righteousness. You can stop hiding and start living as who God says you are.
Think about it
- Is there a mistake you keep beating yourself up about?
- Read 1 John 1:9. What does God promise when you confess?
Pray
Lord, I bring You my past. Thank You that in Jesus I am forgiven and made new. Help me live as a new creation today. Amen.
Never abandoned
“For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me in.”
David wrote this psalm when he felt rejected. He says that even if his father and mother left him, God would still take him in.
Maybe your parents aren’t around. Maybe they’re there but don’t share your faith or don’t understand you. That hurts, and it’s okay to tell God so. But you are never truly alone. The Lord takes you in. He sees you when nobody else does. And He often sends people, like a pastor, a mentor, or a friend’s mom, to show you His care.
Think about it
- Who has God put in your life that shows you His care?
- Is there a safe adult you could talk to about how you’re really doing?
Pray
Lord, thank You that You will never leave me. Heal the places where I feel rejected, and bring safe people into my life who love You. Amen.
When I’m anxious
“Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”
Tests, friends, home, the future, how you look: there’s a lot to worry about. God doesn’t tell you to pretend you’re fine. He tells you to cast your anxieties on Him. To cast means to throw it off, like a heavy backpack. Why? Because He cares for you.
Tell Him exactly what’s weighing on you. Write it down if that helps. And remember that God also gives us people. Talking to a trusted adult is not a lack of faith. It’s one of the ways God helps.
Think about it
- What are three things worrying you right now? Give each one to God in prayer.
- Who is one trusted person you can tell how you’re feeling?
Pray
God, here is what I’m worried about. I give it to You, because You care for me. Please give me Your peace. Amen.

Not too young
“Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.”
Timothy was young, and some people didn’t take him seriously. Paul told him not to let that stop him.
You don’t have to wait until you’re older to follow Jesus with your whole heart. You can be an example right now: in how you talk, how you treat people, how you love, how you trust God, and how you keep your heart and body pure. Your friends are watching. Your siblings are watching. God can use your life today to point others to Him.
Think about it
- Where could you be an example this week: speech, conduct, love, faith, or purity?
- Who is one person you can encourage this week?
Pray
Lord, I don’t want to wait to live for You. Use me now. Help me be an example in what I say and do, so others can see You in me. Amen.
You did it!
You spent seven days listening to what God says about you. Keep going: read one chapter of John each day for the next 21 days.
You weren’t made to follow Jesus alone. Look for a Bible-teaching church and an older woman who can read the Bible with you. Live in Chowchilla? Send us a message and we’ll help you take the first step.
“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.”
