For the single woman

Single, but never alone. Complete in Christ.

Maybe you have never married, you are divorced, or you are quietly waiting. This season is not a waiting room. It is a valuable time to know God, serve, and bloom where He has planted you.

Your identity

Your worth doesn’t depend on a ring

The world tells you something is missing until you have a partner. God says that in Christ you are already complete.

“And you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.”

COLOSSIANS 2:10

Chosen and loved

God chose you before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4). You are not a plan B.

A daughter, not a label

"Single" describes your situation, not your identity. Your identity is: child of God (John 1:12).

Jesus understands

Jesus lived His life on earth unmarried, and His life was full and purposeful.

Your story isn’t over

Whether or not God gives you a husband, He is writing your story with love (Jeremiah 29:11).

Make the most of this season

Five ways to flourish today

  1. 1

Put down roots in the Word

Read your Bible every day, even one chapter. A woman rooted in the Word is like a tree planted by streams of water (Psalm 1:3).

  2. 2

    Serve freely

Paul says the unmarried woman can give her whole heart to the things of the Lord (1 Corinthians 7:34). Your time and gifts are a gift to the church.

  3. 3

    Build deep friendships

Look for friends who love Jesus, married and single, younger and older. We weren’t made to live alone.

  4. 4

    Manage your money well

Make a budget, save, give generously, and avoid debt. Read our post on debt and download the free budget sheet.

  5. 5

    Guard your heart

Guard your heart from relationships that pull you away from God (Proverbs 4:23). Read our post on dating.

Desires and contentment

Is it okay to want to get married?

Yes. The desire to marry is good, because God created marriage. What matters is what you do with that desire while you wait.

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

PSALM 37:4

Bring it to God

Tell Him honestly what you long for, what hurts, and what you fear. He listens (1 Peter 5:7).

Don’t settle

It is better to be single than to be joined to someone who doesn’t love Jesus (2 Corinthians 6:14).

Learn contentment

Paul learned to be content in every situation (Philippians 4:11–13). Contentment is learned one day at a time.

If you are divorced or a single mom

God sees your pain and offers you a new beginning. There is grace for you and a place in His family.

Your people

The church is your family

"God settles the solitary in a home" (Psalm 68:6). Here is how to find your place.

Take the first step

  • Come to a service and stay for coffee afterward.
  • Join the Wednesday Bible study.
  • Come to the women’s gathering.
  • Offer to serve in a ministry.

Find a mentor

  • Ask an older woman to read the Bible with you.
  • Ask how she has walked with God through life.
  • Meet regularly, even for 30 minutes.
  • Pray for her and let her pray for you.

Real questions

Things you may be wondering

What if I never get married?

Your life is not less valuable or less complete. Many single women have served God with great joy and fruit. God promises to be with you in every season (Hebrews 13:5).

How do I handle loneliness?

Loneliness is real, and feeling it is not a sin. Bring it to God, build friendships at church, and serve others. If the sadness doesn’t lift, talk to someone you trust or a counselor.

All my friends are getting married. What do I do with comparison?

Celebrate with them, and remember God has a different plan for each of us. Comparison steals joy; gratitude gives it back.

How do I know if a man is right for me?

First look for a man who loves Jesus and whose life shows it. Involve your family or church, and never ignore red flags.

I’m divorced. Can God still use me?

Yes. God uses women with broken stories again and again. Seek pastoral counsel about your situation, and rest in His grace.
